Maoist Communist Party Manipur (MCPM) Tuesday said that the party would call a statewide general strike in Manipur on April 29 as part of boycott to the scheduled visit of India’s President Pranab Mukherjee. President Pranab Mukherjee would visit Imphal on April 29 to attend the 14th convocation of Manipur University. He would leave Imphal on the same day, an official source in the state home department said.
A statement of the MCPM signed by its publicity and propaganda secretary comrade Nonglen Meitei dispatched to the local media Tuesday said that the general strike would be imposed to boycott the visit of President. The main objective of proposed general strike was to highlight the suffering of the people of the state after the state merged with the Indian union, MCPM’s statement added.
